I got in on the 4x4 Labs Bumper Group Buy and looking forward to building my own rear bumper, but my welding skills are mediocre at best. I do get good penetration and adhesion, and my stuff don't break, but my welds just look like crap. Tungsten grinding question. - Welding Tips and Tricks

The same wheel for any tungsten is fine. Diamond wheels are best, but most expensive. The green silicon carbide is a great choice too, but they are soft and will groove up if you don’t rotate your tungsten across the surface (chuck it up in a drill, spin slowly, and slide across the width of the wheel while it’s spinning).

Reversing rotation of angle grinder, would you? - Weld

the standard rotation is always trying to tighten the wheel or cup, reverse rotation would do the opposite, it might be worse to have cutting wheels flying at your head instead of just sparks. my preference is to have the grinder alwayd pulling INTO the work, i see guys having the wheel working against the grinders natural direction. it'll bind up the wheel and somtimes shatter it.

Glazing on angle grinder grinding wheels - weldingweb

This may be a trivial question, but sometimes a metal glazing forms on my grinding wheels on a 4 1/2" grinder. I don't press down hard on metal when grinding, just enough to get the job done...(don't want to end up in the ER). The disks become nearly useless for grinding, removing little material when that happens. Using 60 or 80 grit wheels on steel.

Grinding wheel for tungsten electrode - weldingweb

For those asking how a softer metal can get embedded into a hard tungsten electrode, look no further than your aluminum oxide (or silicon carbide, or diamond) grinding wheel. Your grinding wheel is considerably harder than any metal you grind with it, yet after grinding, you will find particles of metal embedded all over the surface of the wheel: the bits of softer metal get lodged in the surface
